TEAM UGANDA WSDC 2021 RECAP

TEAM UGANDA WSDC 2021 RECAP

Tracy Nimusiima – Nabisunsa Girls School (S.3)

WSDC 2021 was an unforgettable experience. The training, research, and preparation for the tournament were truly enriching. Initially, I never imagined that I would represent Uganda at the World Schools Debating Championships. Even before and during the tournament, I experienced a lot of anxiety and fear about competing against national teams from other countries and the possibility of making mistakes in the next round.

Despite all this, I am grateful to God for blessing me with one of the best coaches and teammates. They consistently pushed me to do my best and helped me overcome my paranoia. The rounds at WSDC were a challenging journey that taught me many things. Here are a few key lessons I learned:

  1. Continuous Learning: You can never know enough. Learning never stops, and even when you think you have grasped all concepts, there is still more to learn.
  2. Teamwork: I truly learned the meaning of teamwork and the importance of the saying, “We are stronger together.”
  3. Resilience: Whatever brings you down will eventually make you stronger. We faced several challenges, but we decided to learn from each round and use each experience to improve in our next debates. We never viewed failure as a loss; instead, WSDC taught us the true meaning of not giving up and fighting until the very end.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience that I will never forget. I am extremely grateful to God, the school administration, my parents, and everyone who helped, encouraged, and made it possible for us to attend WSDC. 😇
